Lauren Keiser Acquires Southern Music

On June 22, the 75-year old Texas music publisher, Southern Music of San Antonio, Texas, was acquired by veteran music publisher, Lauren Keiser.  Southern Music is a leading educational and concert music publisher having published thousands of titles and establishing a long list of standard school and concert repertoire for band, chamber groups, individual instruments, orchestra, choral, and vocal forces.

Arthur Gurwitz, owner and CEO of Southern said, “We are happy and fortunate to be purchased by Lauren Keiser, a foremost publisher in the United States and the world. We know that Southern Music’s future is assured in Lauren’s capable hands.”

Lauren Keiser states, “Arthur Gurwitz and his family have dedicated their entire lives to creating this venerable publishing enterprise, so it is a great honor to be part of the future of this esteemed publishing house with its talented composers, excellent reputation and valued copyrights. We are excited to continue building on the long history of an American music icon and publisher of so many gifted composers and authors.”

The Southern Music publications will be available from Hal Leonard, who exclusively distributes the Lauren Keiser Music Publishing titles worldwide. Southern Music will maintain an office in San Antonio, Texas with Bob Dingley, Southern Music’s general manager, running the operation on a day-to-day basis.
