Avid Comments on the Future of Sibelius
Recent weeks have seen a number of reports – mostly via social media and online forums – suggesting that Avid will be discontinuing support of the Sibelius line, that production and development will move from the UK to the Ukraine, and many other rumors along those lines.
“Sibelius users should be reassured that despite the rumors, Avid is will continue to support Sibelius going forward and we absolutely have future release planned,” Mark Williams, media programs manager for Avid, told MMR on Thursday, July 26. “Sibelius development moving forward will be managed in California, where we will be able to leverage the deep expertise of our pro audio development team.”
On July 23, Avid’s VP of product & solutions, audio, Martin Kloiber, posted the following on the official Avid Community Blog: “I’ve been following closely the outpouring of concern on forums and social media about Avid’s commitment to Sibelius. It’s clear that many people are deeply worried about the future development of the application given that Avid has announced plans to close the Finsbury Park [UK] office, subject to employee consultations, where the majority of the development had taken place… Our plan is to integrate Sibelius development more closely with the rest of Avid’s audio development teams in California, and I’m confident we can leverage our innovative development teams and continue to raise the bar in the future… I know that the passion currently being expressed by users is a testament both to the hard work and to the dedication of the Finsbury Park development team. We soon hope to be able to share more specifics as we continue with the transition. We appreciate everyone’s patience until we are able to make those announcements.”
