Yamaha Names Shalhoup Chief Marketing Director

Yamaha Corporation of America (YCA) has announced that John Shalhoup has been appointed as the company’s chief marketing director, a newly created position. He will report to Tom Sumner, senior vice president, YCA.

Shalhoup’s new duties include developing and implementing new marketing strategies that ensure a cohesive Yamaha message across the company’s divisions and across all sales channels, to strengthen and elevate brand awareness. He is also responsible for initiating cross-marketing relationships with alliance partners, including The Walt Disney Company and Carnegie Hall, to further Yamaha’s marketing reach.

John Shalhoup joined Yamaha in 1998 as a Pro Audio and Combo (PAC) division district manager for the Mid-Atlantic region. In 2001, he moved to YCA corporate headquarters in Buena Park to serve as national account manager for Guitar Center and Musician’s Friend. His responsibilities expanded in 2005 when he was promoted to director of national accounts, which included the entire PAC national account channel. In 2008, he moved to director of national sales, overseeing the company’s independent dealer channel, the inside sales team and the product support group, along with the national accounts channel. Most recently, he served as director of administration in the company’s Band & Orchestral division.
