Guitar Center has announced Brandon Green as the winner of Guitar Center’s Your Next Record with Keith Urban. After an eight-week period of peer judging through OurStage.com, the top 100 unsigned artists from a group of over 6,000 submissions were chosen in a process designed to send one talented unsigned artist into the studio with Grammy Award-winner Keith Urban and producer Dann Huff. Urban hand-selected the winner with his creative team.
After four months and four rounds, John-Joe Michael Roarty is the 2010 Sam Ash “Best In Shred” champion, winning $20,000 in music, sound and recording gear from Ibanez, Line 6, EV, Zoom, Jim Dunlop, Samson and Morley, plus the grand prize: the opportunity to perform live, onstage with legendary guitarist Steve Vai. Sammy Ash, COO of the music store chain personally awarded John-Joe the coveted Ibanez RG9670Z guitar, a custom model flown in from Japan for the event.
Chad Smith, drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, took on a different role on November 16: educator. Smith, in collaboration with the Percussion Marketing Council’s (PMC) “Percussion In The Schools” program, appeared at Peters Township High School in McMurray, Pa., for an assembly that aimed to promote an appreciation for music and music making in all students.
